Dr. Ghasemi and the Flourishing of Kanoon Iran

Kanoon Iran was undoubtedly one of the most active cultural and artistic centers in Europe. Dr. Ghasemi invited a wide range of prominent Iranian artists and writers to deliver speeches and performances at Kanoon and organized various cultural programs on different occasions for citizens in London.

Dr. Ghasemi’s tireless efforts for Iranian culture and Persian language education were widely recognized and appreciated by Persian speakers in London and by Iranian writers and artists worldwide. The Kanoon Persian School is proud to be the inheritor of such a legacy and strives to carry this torch into the future.

Dr. Ghasemi passed away on May 11, 2022. Since then, the Kanoon Persian School has been operating independently, managed by an executive committee. The committee members are elected from among volunteer parents and teachers.

Track Record

Over more than 40 years of operation, the Kanoon School has introduced dozens of students to the Persian language. Some students were able to successfully complete their UK high school final exams in Persian as a result of this education. One of Dr. Ghasemi’s most significant initiatives was the compilation and publication of the first Persian textbook in England in 1986. Since then, this book has been used by a wide range of Persian speakers outside Iran.

Administration

The Kanoon Persian School, established as a non-profit organization, is managed by an executive committee comprised of parents and teachers. All parents and teachers elect the committee at the school’s annual meeting, held one month after the start of the academic year.

Kanoon Persian School

The Kanoon Persian School was founded in 1984 by Dr. Reza Ghasemi, a former Iranian diplomat, in London, alongside Kanoon Iran, which he had established two years earlier. This is likely the first Persian language school established in the capital of England. Dr. Ghasemi started this school with 8 children, including his own and those of friends who shared his concern for teaching the Persian language. The number of students quickly grew to dozens.
